The Challenge
Furniture retail runs on few, long, high-value visits. Segmüller wanted to know how many people enter each of its large-format stores, which departments they actually reach, and how traffic differs between locations. Sales data alone could not answer any of that.
The Solution
Segmüller started with a pilot: 81 sensors across two floors in each of two stores, from October 2022 to March 2023, including counting at the checkouts. The results convinced the board, and in August 2023 Segmüller decided on a full rollout: around 550 sensors across all six stores, Friedberg, Parsdorf, Weiterstadt, Mannheim, Nürnberg, and Pulheim, live store by store through December 2023 on a multi-year contract.
The Impact
Every store now reports entrance and department-level traffic, dwell times, and period comparisons through weekly and monthly reports. Accuracy is validated against manual counts down to single departments, with results like 111 people counted manually versus 111 measured by Ariadne at the Parsdorf entrance.
